"They were a team that hadn't trained much together, I think we had about three training sessions before the tournament, so to see them come together and gel really well was really pleasing.
"I thought they adjusted really well to different combinations that we put on the court throughout the day.
"They just really backed each other as a team and just did the job."
Butler lauded the quality of the opposition and said it will hold them in good stead for future tournaments.
"We got really pushed, probably Ballarat and North Central, they were pushed by both those sides in the semi final and grand final and it was quite close in both those games," Butler said.
"The competition was good, there was probably a lot of teams that weren't there that we'll come up against in the next tournament or the association champs, but yeah I think we got to have a bit of a look at some of the teams that we'll compete against in June which was nice."
The region's teams will now compete in the Northern Association Championships on Sunday June 6 in Bendigo and the top two teams will progress to the state championships in Melbourne.
