Feldt has learnt how to sniff out a try across nine NRL seasons, his 95th in a one-point win over Brisbane last week drawing comparisons to Inspector Gadget.

Injury and depth on the flanks has always counted against the 29-year-old but Feldt is adamant he's now ready if the moment arrives next month.

"That's obviously on the top of my bucket list now after not being at the top the last couple of years with injury," he said.

"But this year it's right there for the taking and I want to put in selectors' minds and (coach Paul Green) Greeny's mind that I am ready for it.

"I've done my hard yards and time not playing; the best way to go about it is play good footy and they won't be able to say no."

There is still plenty of traffic in front of Feldt, with Broncos flyer Xavier Coates and teammate Valentine Holmes as well as Phil Sami (Gold Coast) and the resurgent Corey Oates (Brisbane) mounting their cases.

But Feldt knows all eyes will be on the Cowboys when they face Sydney Roosters as part of Magic Round on Saturday, creating the perfect environment for an audition.

"This is one of the rounds you've got to put your best foot forward; it's got to be one of your best games of the season," he said.

"I'm coming off one of the best games I've played this season, so I just need to back that up and put some thought in their minds."

After losing their first four games this season under new coach Todd Payten, the Cowboys have won four of their last five.

The Roosters will start as warm favourites despite their mounting list of injuries, with Lachlan Lam in at No.6 for Drew Hutchison (ribs).

Victor Radley (HIA) and Sam Walker (shoulder) have both been named, with Joseph Suaalii again in reserves while Cowboys enforcer Jason Taumalolo will play his 200th NRL game.

"They are a little down on troops so I know we see it as the right time to pounce," Feldt said.

"And the way we've played the last month, it'll be a good stepping stone to face a high-quality team."
