The Demons have had a forgettable past few weeks, and coach Tiff Hier said she was relieved to get the win.
"I'm very happy with the girls and their performance," Hier said, pointing to the side's defensive effort as particularly strong.
"Stawell put a lot of pressure on us through the mid-court, so we had to work really hard and play some smart netball just to get the ball down the court," Hier said.
To Hier, wing defence Tamika Mentha was best on court, with goalkeeper Marnie Lehmann and goal defence Grace Manserra rounding out the best three.

However, Hier said the Demons are not back to their fearsome best just yet, and can look to improve when star Emma Bewulda returns.
"We've definitely missed her over the past five weeks," Hier said.
In Coughlin Park the Giants continued their impressive form, beating the Saints 56 to 48 in a intriguing indoor clash.
The Saints led at the first break but the Giants hit back in the second, and held on to notch their sixth win in a row.
Coach Mikayla George said she was "very, very honoured and proud" with the Giants performance against the Saints.
MORE NEWS:
'It was an absolutely tremendous game to watch, and to coach. Credit to the Saints, it was very, very physical."
George said she was very happy with the umpiring in such a fiery match.
Goalies Steph Thomson and Riley Schache worked brilliantly together in attack, according to George.
"It was nice to see the double height combination work so well together . Normally we play with a short and a tall, but today we played with two talls."
"She was very dynamic in the backline, very physical, up front and really invading Abby Hallam (Saints goal attack)'s space," George said, adding that she thought Hallam was "definitely best on court" overall.
OTHER NEWS:
"She was tremendous, so it was nice to see that Katie really served it up to her," George said.
Meanwhile in Murtoa, Dimboola came away with a thrilling, one-point victory over the reigning premiers.
The Roos leapt out of the gates to an eight point lead at the first break, however the Burras refused to lay down and outscore Dimboola in the second term, going into the main break just two points down.
The second half was an arm wrestle as the Burras yet again outscored the Roos in the third to go into three-quarter time with scores level.
However, it was to be Dimboola who emerged victorious, denying the brave Burras their maiden victory of the season.
Last but not least, the Warrack Eagles continued their strong form and cemented themselves in second place on the ladder with a win over the Tigers in Nhill to celebrate Sarah Spicer's 250th game in style.
