In an entertaining clash, the Waratahs defeated Queensland 47-26 in their Super W opener at Easts Rugby Union Club on Saturday
While the men's team couldn't log a win in a horror domestic and trans-Tasman season, the Waratahs women were on-song from the outset, running in five tries to one in a dominant opening 40 minutes.
A more even second half saw the 'Tahs claim a 21-point win, with winger Maya Stewart scoring four tries.
Eleven players made their Queensland and Super W debuts in the loss.
Meanwhile, the Brumbies were just as impressive in their opener, registering a 30-5 win over Melbourne at Seiffert Oval.
The home side logged four tries to one in the comfortable win, including a fertile 17 minutes either side of the break where they dotted down three times.
The Brumbies closed out the match with an athletic effort from winger Halley Derera, who cleaned up a cross-field kick from Lilly Mason-Spice to touch down in the corner right on fulltime.
The Super W features six teams with Western Force and a President's XV also in the competition.
