Victoria is approaching two years enduring COVID-19 restrictions, lockdowns and circuit breakers, impacting many families and businesses.

There are several ways this hardship policy can aid Horsham residents.

A payment plan to schedule payments, including weekly, monthly or quarterly plans to ease the pressure when receiving a large bill.

Horsham mayor Robyn Gulline said this can be arranged for any ratepayers and not just those in financial hardship.

"A payment plan is an option to every ratepayer," she said.

"There are many people using that facility now who are not in hardship but it just takes away that bill shock."

Cr Gulline said council officers will assist in any way they can and ratepayers just need to reach out.

Another form of support is interest waiver, deferral of payment, waiver of rates or Centrepay, which automatically deducts rates from a ratepayers Centrelink payments.

"You can discuss your unique circumstances with council officers and they will set up a payment plan accordingly," Cr Gulline said.

The 2021-22 Budget included a drop in the council's municipal charge, which was reduced from $274 to $240.

Cr Gulline said council is there to support ratepayers however they can.

"Support is available, people just need to communicate," she said.
