Lining up in the reserves for his beloved club, Tuckwell's team scraped home by two points in the end.

"It was very tense all day and it wasn't until the final minutes that we got in front and won by two points," Tuckwell said.

Tuckwell's incredible milestone was acknowledged when both teams formed a guard of honour for him after the game.

"That was a very humbling experience," Tuckwell said.

"It feels good to have made it to 400 but you also feel very old in the process."

Tuckwell's football career began as a ten-year-old with the Leeor Colts' side, where he experienced a lot of success.

In fact, his number one career highlight came in 1988 where as vice captain he helped lead the colts' side to a premiership after losing the previous two grand finals.

Tuckwell went on to make his senior debut for Leeor in 1990 as a 16-year-old and has since gone on to play 358 games for Leeor and Kaniva-Leeor. His other 42 games of senior football came between 1993 and 1995 for Penola when he moved to the area for work.

The 400-gamer returned to Leeor in 1996 and remained loyal during the amalgamation with Kaniva in 1997.

Tuckwell has racked up a number of awards with the Cougars including an impressive six reserves best and fairest awards and being selected in the Kaniva-Leeor United All Star Team in 2017.

Asked why he's stuck with the club so long, he replied "it's just a great place to be around".

"There's a massive amount of great people there that are all focused on the success of the whole club, from juniors to seniors and the netball club," Tuckwell said.

"It's all just one great community and it's a fantastic thing to be around."

Despite being one of his side's best players on the weekend, Tuckwell is emphatic he wouldn't be getting to 500 games.

"I think my body's telling me it's nearly time to give it all in but for the moment if we're short I'm always happy to put my hand up to play," he said.

"If we've got the numbers I'm quite happy to sit out and give other people a game too."
