MORE NEWS:
The Aussie team consisting of Stephan, Rosie Popa, Jessica Morrison and Annabelle McIntyre finished first with an Olympic record time of six minutes 15.37 seconds beating their qualifying time of six minutes, 28.76 seconds in the heats.
The Dutch pushed the Australian's in the last 500 metres, but the Aussies led by Stephan were good enough to hold on for the title in an event that hasn't been held since the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
It is Stephan's first Olympics medal and completes the set for the 29-year-old, who already has a world championship gold medal and multiple national titles to her name.
More to come.
