Tyson Rohrsheim, 43, appeared at the Horsham Magistrates' Court on Monday and pleaded guilty to charges of providing a positive oral fluid sample test within three hours of driving and speeding.
At 3.30pm on Friday, October 23, 2020, police spotted Rohrsheim travelling on Macpherson Street in his green Ford station wagon at speeds of 69km/h.
Macpherson Street is a 60km/h zone.
Police intercepted Rohrsheim on Pynsent Street and conducted an oral fluid test which returned positive for illicit drugs.
OTHER NEWS:
Rohrsheim was taken to Horsham police station where he had to provide another oral fluid sample test, which came back positive for methamphetamine.
During a field interview Rohrsheim told police he thought it was okay as it had been more than 24 hours since he used the substance, and that he "just had to pick someone up".
Magistrate Noreeen Toohey said losing his licence would have an impact on Rohrsheim's ability to work, and hoped he considered it in the future.
"You live in a rural area and nine times out of 10 people need to be driving to work," Ms Toohey said.
"You can see the ramifications for you. You are 43, you are not going to have a license for six months. You are going to try and get a job now - and you will have to find a job where someone can drive you to employment, or you'll have to cycle or walk.
"We don't want to see you back here again."
Rohrsheim's licence was disqualified for six months and he was placed on a good behaviour bond requiring him to undertake drug counselling.
