URGENT stabilisation works for Rainbow's Yurunga Homestead will go ahead after its committee successfully attained $185,000 in Victorian government grant funding.

The funding comes via the Living Heritage grant program, which provides funding to restoration works on heritage sites.
The Yurunga Homestead committee was previously successful in applying for grant money in April 2020.
The soils of the Rainbow district are silty clay, which results in many older stone buildings in Rainbow showing various degrees of cracking in their walls.

This was exacerbated on the kitchen and laundry walls in Yurunga over the years through water drainage making them increasingly unstable.
The popular tourist attraction has had to close off sections of the homestead from tours due to these structural concerns.
Hindmarsh Shire Council mayor Ron Ismay said the council was excited to receive Victorian government support for the restoration project.
"Yurunga Homestead is a significant heritage listed property and a key heritage attraction in our shire," he said.
"It will be great to see this project completed and the whole homestead open for visitors to enjoy."
