Robinson on Thursday admitted regular hooker Sam Verrills was "extremely flat" after being handed a two-game ban at the NRL judiciary, with the Roosters still shocked by the outcome.

But the Roosters coach has no hesitations in turning to Marschke, who has played just 12 NRL games and spent only 48 minutes on the park since June.

It completes a remarkable journey for Marshke, who only returned to the Roosters feeder-club North Sydney last summer to play with his old under-20s teammates.

But he will now be a key member of the Roosters' spine, with Robinson making the 24-year-old his immediate back-up choice once Verrills was charged.

"Having him back at North Sydney and watching him play and then the tenacity with which he plays, it's been a quite an easy choice to get him in there," Robinson said.

"And then just the way that he attacked the games, the way that he decided to go after the games when he got his opportunity.

"He's a footy guy, played a lot of footy.

"We knew the scenario going into Tuesday night and both of them were ready to play, and now Benny gets his opportunity."

Marschke's rise is a true sliding doors moment.

After leaving the Roosters following under-20s success, he and twin brother Jesse moved to Newtown in 2018 and Canterbury in 2019.

The Bulldogs decision to link with Mounties in NSW Cup this season left him without a club, before the pair both headed back to North Sydney.

He spent limited training sessions with the Roosters before his debut and was upgraded to a development contract earlier this year when Jake Friend, Freddy Lussick and Verrills were all injured.

"He's a really popular and real positive guy," Robinson said.

"A lot of those hooker roles, they're a bit like wicketkeepers in cricket, they set the tone for how everybody else around them is.

"It's a really important role and Ben he's got a great temperament."

Robinson does, however, feel for Verrills.

The 22-year-old's two-game ban has raised eyebrows across the NRL, after his legal team argued on Tuesday night that Brian Kelly had fallen into his shoulder.

Even Sea Eagles coach Des Hasler admitted on Thursday he felt sorry for Verrills, conceding Kelly's broken nose had hurt him.

"He is extremely flat," Robinson said.

"It was hard for him to understand how with the way that he plays the game ... and with other circumstances within that tackle that caused that.

"And for him to be missing two games and two finals games for that it's been extremely flattening for him."
