Wimmera residents were making the most of the public holiday and sunshine, whether is was kicking a football at the oval, walking or riding a bike down at the Wimmera River or having a picnic to catch up with friends.

One mum said it was a great excuse to get the young children out of the house to burn off some energy.

Lisa Uebergang and Kristy Kelly wanted to get out to stretch their legs but also give their boys a chance to catch up with their friends.

"They're in grade six, this is their last year in primary school together," Ms Kelly said.

"We organised a picnic so they could all see each other."

The skate park near the ANZAC Bridge was a popular spot, with plenty of children using the ramp to practice their scooter, bike or skating skills.

Friends, Eli, Jack, Toby and Riley, all 11 and in grade six had not a lot of interest in watching the football match tomorrow.

Everyone except, Jack, was a Geelong Cats supporter, Jack goes for Essendon. So, not a lot of support for the Bulldogs versus Demons match tomorrow from the boys.

Under current restrictions, gatherings outside in public areas are allowed of up to 10 adults.
