Crews have started to completely rebuild a three-kilometre section of the highway at Vectis, which services more than 2000 motorists a day.
Further works on the highway at Jung, Dooen and Rupanyup will occur in the following months, as warmer weather provides more suitable road-building conditions.
Minister for Roads Ben Carroll said the Wimmera Highway was specifically chosen due to its importance as an agricultural freight passage.
"This work on the Wimmera Highway is keeping farmers, manufacturers and freight operators connected with trade opportunities, as well as supporting jobs right across the supply chain," he said.
