Speaking to Fox Footy after his selection, he said that he was proud to be joining Essendon.
"It's an amazing feeling, I'm so glad that my name's been called out to the Bombers, they're an amazing club and I can't wait to get into it," he said.
"I'm so proud of this moment ... I'm so happy that it's happened.
"It's been a dream for as long as I can remember, it's the best day of my life for sure."
He heads to Essendon which is coming off an elimination final appearance in 2021.
The picks put an end to what has been a rollercoaster season for NAB League players, the stop-start nature of the season making it harder than usual to impress recruiters.
Hobbs was able to make an impact in his short amount of time on the field.
Despite suffering an ankle injury, he returned to dominate for the Rebels, averaging 31 disposals, 4.75 tackles, four inside 50s and a goal per game in his next four hit outs after returning.
The remainder of the national draft takes place Thursday night from 7pm.
The pre-season and rookie drafts kick off from 3pm on Friday.
