Yual Reath has smashed his own high jump record, becoming just the fourth Australian to clear 2.25 metres this calendar year.
Competing for the first time this season in the Athletics Victoria Shield League, Reath broke the previous high jump record in any open competition at the Ballarat Regional Athletics Centre in Victoria's central highlands.

The 21-year-old, who is coached by Paul Cleary, previously set the record with a 2.20 jump at the Victorian Country Championships earlier this year.

Still a full-time garden landscaper, Reath's 2.25 jump is expected to qualify him for Athletics Australia financial support to compete overseas and on the domestic circuit.
Cleary has backed his star to challenge for a place at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and World Athletics Championships.
