The Wimmera is entering representative teams in the under 14 and 16 age groups, while they are combining with Hamilton to form an under 18 team for the first time.
Each team plays five games as well as the possibility of a sixth if they make the grand final. Other teams competing in the three age divisions include Ballarat, Warrnambool and Colac.
Wimmera Girls Cricket League coordinator Tony Caccaviello is confident in the teams that the Wimmera is sending to Hamilton.
"The competition goes from strength to strength," Caccaviello said.
"We've now almost got a third representative team.
"It's another crop of players coming through playing high-level cricket."
In 2021 the Wimmera entered teams in the Under 14 and 16 tournaments which was the first time the league had sent teams to the Western Victoria Shield competitions.
In the Under 14s the Wimmera finished an impressive equal third out of eight teams, while in the Under 16s the region finished fifth out of six teams.
"I think with most of this the more repetition (of playing at a higher level) you can get as a junior the better you'll get," Caccaviello said.
"Last year, I've got a couple of players in mind who went into the Western Victoria Girls cricket carnival and they came out of it much more improved and confident players with their skills and they also made some new friends.
