He said this time of year is ideal for neonates - new born tiger and copperhead snakes - and they can be every bit as deadly as their full grown relatives.

"The majority of the season's snakes are being born now, and they are about 10cm in length and they can get in some neat little places," he said.

"They can get in under doors and we've had a few calls about them being in houses and workshops.

"They don't contain the venom yield or have the fang size of a larger snake, but they can still be deadly."

Mr Smith, based in Tasmania's north west, said the summer had been busy for snakes, and he had received about 300 calls from across the region.

He said the season was still winding down, but with persistent warm weather residents needed to remain vigilant.

"We're starting to see not as many moving around, they're moving pretty close to where they're going to be in hibernation," he said.
