In-form tennis star Sacha McDonald of Edenhope is the next youngster to be selected for the state side.
She will join Steffi McDonald, whose selection was reported last week.
The two are not related, but both represented the Wimmera region in the Tennis Victoria Foundation Cup – which pitted the 11 Tennis Victoria regions against each other – earlier this month.
Wimmera made history by winning the cup for the first time, and Sacha and Steffi were rewarded for their strong form by being picked for the Victorian regional team.
It means half of the four-person state team will be from the Wimmera.
The pair will travel to Melbourne for the interstate version of the Foundation Cup, which will be played at Royal South Yarra Lawn Tennis Club in January.
Sacha said being chosen to represent her state was an unexpected honour.
“I was over the moon when I found out – I was at basketball and Dad called me and I was very excited,” she said.
“I didn’t expect it at all after playing number two at the Foundation Cup so I was pretty happy to be picked.
“It’s probably one of the first times they’ve picked a number two so I was really surprised.
“I did win a few of my games but I never thought they would pick a number two.”
Sacha’s brother Oscar also represented the Victorian regional team four years ago.
She said she was proud to have made the team with other junior players who practised for hours each week.
Sacha said her only practice each week was in Saturday’s Central Wimmera Tennis Association competition.
