WIMMERA Regional Sports Assembly’s Sports Star of the Year awards will be handed out a ceremony at Horsham’s Holy Trinity Luthern School on Friday night.
The field for the main award is noticeably young this year, increasing the chance a junior athlete of the year could be the same as the big winner.
This year’s guest speaker will be former Australian Diamond and Melbourne Vixen netballer Bianca Chatfield.
Other categories to be awarded on the night are cover the best administrator-officials, teams, coaches , unsung heroes, junior athlete under 15 years of age, Koori sports star, schools, special needs sports stars and veteran of the year.
Awards are also given for sportsmanship award, women in sport award, and the best performed former Wimmera athlete win the grass roots award.
To speculate over who could win some of these awards would be easy.
The team of the year could easily be the Horsham Saints senior football side, which overcame the odds to win the Wimmera Football League premiership.
But it could also easily be the Horsham Hornets under-14s side, which made it to the national stage to compete with the best teams in Australia in Newcastle.
That is just a couple.
The schedule for the night will stand with the nominees announced before Chatfield speaks to the reception at 7pm.
The several different awards categories will build towards the climax of the night, the sports star of the year award.
