The Lady Hornets showed the home crowd why they sit top of the North West Women table with a 103-32 win over a helpless Castlemaine Lady Cannons side.
It was a physical contest from the outset with the Lady Hornets not bothered by making a few fouls.
Coach Gareth Hiscock said the team likes playing a physical game.
“We try and get the games physical because it suits us,” he said.
Kara Shuttleworth had a solid opening quarter as the Lady Hornets asserted their dominance on the contest.
The second quarter was much of the same with the Lady Cannons struggling to get any clear shooting opportunities. The Lady Hornets forced the Cannons into rushed shots and were often quicker with their rebounds.
By half-time the Lady Hornets had a 59-19 lead.
The second half was much of the same, with the Lady Hornets putting on a defensive and scoring masterclass.
The Lady Hornets let in just the 13 points for the entire second half, while managing to break the 100-point barrier for the first time this season.
Caitlin Storey top scored for the Lady Hornets with 19 points, while Liv Jones was solid with 18.
Coach Gareth Hiscock said the scoring display from his team across both games at the weekend was impressive.
“We finished up with over 200 points for the weekend, you can’t ask for more than that,” he said.
Despite the team leading by more than 70 points with minutes left in the game, the Lady Hornets did not drop their intensity. Hiscock said the commitment from the team is a testament to their ability.
“We are a good side and the players have to fight for court time,” he said.
“If they’re on the court and don’t show intensity they come off and miss out on minutes. That’s the message to them – if you want to be on the court you have to give your best.”
The win came after the Lady Hornets defeated the Maryborough Blazers by 45 points on Saturday night.
The league will now take a break over the Christmas period, with the Lady Hornets returning to action on January 13 against the Kyneton Tigers in Horsham.
