HORSHAM’S St Brigid’s College student Darcy Hogan shaved his head for the second time to raise money for the Leukamia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave.
Darcy shaved off his hair during a special assembly at St Brigid’s College.
While the assembly was not compulsory, nearly every student attended to cheer him on.
He said the World’s Greatest Shave was a fundraiser that was close to his heart.
After watching his grandmother Jan Neville go through treatment for leukaemia and beat her battle with cancer in 2012, Darcy decided to participate in the World’s Greatest Shave when her was 11 years old.
He decided five years on that he would be brave and shave again.
When the time came to shave his head on Friday he had smashed his original target of $1000 by $1760. His total tally stands at $2760 and counting.
“It means a lot because cancer has touched my family and having that support from my friends and the community means a great deal,” he said.
“This fundraiser is very close to my heart. Raising money for the foundation by doing something so simple as cutting my hair is easy – I don’t see it as something big because it is only hair.”
The Horsham teenager also received a Courage to care local hero award for his efforts to stand up for the underdog and make sure people are being treated kindly.
Darcy said people could make a final donation at http://my.leukaemiafoundation.org.au/darcyhogan.
