The phone rang our house and my wife answered, “Hello”.

“Mrs M is it?”

“Speaking”, she answered. “Mrs M, this is Dr Mortimor from the Wimmera Base Hospital.

“When your husband’s doctor sent in his biopsy to the lab last week, a biopsy from another Mr M arrived on the same day as well.”

He continued, “We are now uncertain which one belongs to your husband. Frankly, either way the results for both are not good.”

“What do you mean?” said my wife nervously.

“Well, one of the specimens tested positive for Alzheimers and the other one tested positive for HIV. We can’t tell which belongs to who,” said the lab worker.

Mrs M said, “That’s terrible, can we do the test again?”

Dr Mortimor replied, “Normally we can, but the new health system will only pay for one of these expensive tests.”

Mrs M said, “What the hell are we going to do then?”

The lab technician then mentioned, “The staff had a discussion at the lab and recommended that you drop Mr M off somewhere unknown to him. If he finds his way home, don’t sleep with him.”
