Anglers land ton in Jeparit

More than a hundred catches were weighed as 400-plus anglers took part in the Jeparit Easter Fishing Competition on Saturday.

Competition spokesperson Lynley Robinson said she was rapt with the whole weekend.

“We had an extremely successful day, with great entry numbers, fantastic prizes and perfect weather,” she said.

“A huge thank you to all of our valued sponsors, who enable us to give out the amazing prizes to our winners.

“And lastly thank you to our committee, members and other helpers on the day for their valuable time to make everything run smoothly.”

A raffle held across the weekend allowed the club to donate more than $3000 to the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.

The senior winner in a field of 283 starters was Brent Walker from Horsham with a 3866 gram golden perch/yellowbelly.

Cheyanne Brabender from Sebastopol near Ballarat won the junior category with a golden perch/yellowbelly weighing 2638g, defeating 132 other anglers.

Brabender's fish was the ninth-heaviest non-carp catch of the day.

Across the course of the competition organisers from Jeparit Anglers Club were presented with 101 fish, comprising:

- 7 redfin

- 56 golden perch/yellowbelly

- 12 silver perch

- 7 catfish

- 29 carp.
