Buloke Shire Council's chief executive, Wayne O'Toole, resigned on Monday, July 7, after serving the shire for eight years and as a CEO for three and a half years.

Mr O'Toole was appointed CEO in January 2022 but has served the organisation in various senior positions since 2017, including director of Works and Technical Services and the Working for Victoria initiative during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He has now accepted a position in the not-for-profit sector, where he will utilise his expertise to serve the broader Victorian community.

Mr O'Toole's community-first insight ensured a coordinated and compassionate response during the October 2022 floods.

His help steers the shire and community through the complex recovery process, supporting both immediate needs and long-term rebuilding efforts.

Buloke Shire Council mayor Alan Getley wished him success and thanked him for his contributions to the Shire.

"I would like to acknowledge Wayne's immense contribution over the past eight years and thank him for his unwavering commitment to our region," he said.

"Council extends its sincere appreciation to Wayne for his dedicated service and leadership.

"We wish him every success as he takes on this new opportunity to continue supporting the community in the not-for-profit sector."

Mr O'Toole remained CEO of the shire for three and a half years, and his last day at work was Monday, July 7.

Under Mr O'Toole's tenure, Buloke Shire Council underwent significant organisational reform, aligning with the requirements of the Local Government Act 2020.

During that time, he improved service delivery models and placed a stronger emphasis on financial sustainability and customer satisfaction.

His strategic oversight contributed to enhanced project delivery outcomes and improved confidence in Council operations.

Mr O'Toole also served in leadership roles at Mount Alexander Shire for over seven years in the past, contributing to planning, environmental health, and statutory services during that time.

The Council will now commence the process of appointing an interim CEO, preparing to formally advertise and recruit for a permanent appointment.
