Busy weekend for emergency services

Emergency services were called into action several times across the Wimmera and Mallee region during the weekend.

Victoria police have begun an investigation following a fatal collision between a car and truck on the Western Highway in Warrak, east of Ararat, just after 5pm on Friday, July 18.

A female driver of the car died at the scene.

The male truck driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The highway was closed for several hours in both directions between Beaufort and Ararat.

Meanwhile, three CFA units, police and paramedics were called to a car rollover on Lah Road on Saturday, July 19, at about 3.20pm.

On Sunday, July 20, emergency services were called out to Lah Road again, this time to extinguish a car fire at about 6:20 a.m.

Finally, a learner motorcycle rider has escaped serious injury after coming off their bike on the Western Highway between Wail and Pimpinio.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said the rider was travelling east when they allegedly struck a pothole and slid into the oncoming traffic lanes.

Fortunately, no other vehicles were present at the time of the incident.

The Western Highway remained open, though traffic was slowed as emergency services cleared debris from the road.
