Known for supporting her staff with spirit and genuine care, Supt McCrory said she was "proud" and "humbled" to receive the APM which recognises distinguished service by a member of the force.

"It's the biggest secret I've ever had to keep," she said.

"When I think back on my career, I've been lucky to work with exceptional people.

"It's a reflection of the team here, they are amazing.

"I'm very chuffed."

Marking her 40th year with Victoria Police, Supt McCrory's career started when she was a Junior Constable in Collingwood in 1985.

She then became the officer in charge of Doncaster Police Station and also served as the local area commander for Stonnington before calling Horsham home in January 2023.

Supt McCrory has successfully managed multiple serious emergencies including recent summer bushfires and those that devastated the tiny township of Pomonal in February 2024.

She has also worked with the former National Crime Authority and as a tactical analyst supporting the Special Operations Group where she aided the safe and effective deployment of members in numerous high-risk operations.

Looking back on the past two years living and working in the Wimmera, Supt McCrory said pre-Christmas to early February has been a "really busy period" for police members.

"It has really tested members and I think it has brought us closer to the community," she said.

"I think the community has a greater understanding of what members face and how impactful it is."

Supt McCrory said moving to the country would have to be a career highlight so far describing it as "fabulous".

"Coming from metro, it was such a change, not only professionally but the lifestyle," she said.

"I think it's the best end to a career."

Thinking ahead, Supt McCrory has said early 2026 will still be her "expiration date".

"I don't want to be that old person who hangs around dragging their feet," she said.

"I'm still happy with the job and I think that's a good time for me."

Supt McCrory was one of the five Victoria Police officers who received an APM alongside an employee who was awarded the Public Service Medal recognising excellence, leadership and innovation.

She will make her way to Government House in Melbourne later this year to be awarded her medal.
