Close margins to decide Round 7
The Horsham Badminton Association’s Winter Competition witnessed long rallies and strong smashes in the Round 7 matches on June 16 at Horsham College’s Badminton Auditorium.

Smash stars continued their winning streak by smashing Shuttlle Shifters by 7 sets to 3.
Stars’ Wajahat Ali once again demonstrated his class by winning three doubles and the only singles game against Luke Dunn, with scores of 21-2 and 21-7.
Caitlin Sawyer also contributed to the Stars’ win by winning two doubles along with Lisa Heal and Paul Robertson.
Shifters’ Avin James won two doubles but ended up on the losing side.
RESULT: Smash Stars defeated Shuttle Shifters by 7 sets to 3, 16 games to 9 and 478 to 409 total points.
In another A-Grade match, Racquet Rebels claimed a one-sided victory against Ace Avengers by 9 sets to 1.
Rebels’ Josh Dunn, Jinu Anthony, Jerry Merrara and Sue Goudie outclassed the opponents by winning all of their 18 games.
Josh Dunn defeated Joel Beggs by 21-18 and 21-7 in only singles games between the two teams.
Avengers’ Tim Nurse and Clayton Duxorth won their doubles against Ishan Thomas and Tomy Abraham by 21-13 and 21-19.
RESULT: Racquet Rebels defeated Ace Avengers by 9 sets to 1, 18 games to 4 and 449 to 368 total points.
Clear Shot had a narrow win against Volley by just 1 set.
Mark Ngoi was a standout performer of the match with two doubles and one singles win in his pocket.
Alvin Chong also contributed to the team’s win by winning two doubles with Mark and Annathurai Gnanas.
Volley’s Noime Powell won three doubles for her team but ended up on the losing side by just 3 games.
RESULT: Clear Shot defeated Volley by 4 sets to 3, 9 games to 6 and 266 to 243 total points.
In the next B Grade court, Drive just drove away Smash in a close contest.
Tojo Joseph and Jing Tang’s Drive won four sets for their team, with Tojo securing a match-winning singles win against Harry Foster by 21-16 and 21-10.
Smash’s Laurie Liston was the only performer for their side with two doubles wins.
RESULT: Drive defeated Smash by 4 sets to 3, 8 games to 6 and 273 to 244 total points.
The tournament is now heading towards the final stage.
