The association will host its “Free Come and Try” program from 3pm to 5pm on March 15, 22, and 29 at the Horsham College Gymnasium, 10 Baillie Street.

Association president Luke Dunn said the program aimed to bring people together through a safe, beginner-friendly sport while also building future participation in badminton across the region.

“Horsham Badminton Association is offering a ‘Free Come and Try’ for the Horsham community over three consecutive Sundays from 3-5 pm starting on March 15,” he said.

“We will use the Horsham College Gymnasium on Baillie Street.”

The initiative has been supported through the Regional Badminton Revitalisation Program, with funding secured by Badminton Victoria through Sport and Recreation Victoria.

Mr Dunn said community input had helped shape the sessions, with a particular focus on making the program welcoming and inclusive.

“Horsham Badminton is excited to offer this opportunity to anyone interested in trying badminton as a beginner or as a past participant,” he said.

“Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly has conducted community consultations targeting Culturally and Linguistically Diverse groups in Horsham, with their feedback helping to shape this program to maximise participation.

“Our hope is that we can connect these groups with the broader Horsham Community through badminton and increase participation in the future.”

The program is free, with all equipment provided to participants.

Organisers will also supply snacks and refreshments during the sessions.

New players who attend all three sessions and do not already own a racquet will receive one free to keep.

The association hopes the sessions will encourage more people from different cultures and backgrounds to get involved, meet others and enjoy the social side of the sport.
