Giants rise in Round 2 of FIDA Western Conference

The second round of the FIDA Western Conference was played on Sunday, May 25, at North Park in Stawell.

With three exciting games of inclusive footy on offer, the Wimmera Whippets, Grampians Giants, and South Warrnambool Roosters all took to the field in front of a supportive crowd of families, friends, and local footy lovers.

In match one, the Grampians Giants defeated the Wimmera Whippets.

The Giants started strong and didn’t let up.

The Giants claimed their Second win of the season, thanks to sharp execution in front of goal and leadership from captain Lachlan Lee, who booted an impressive five goals.

Charlie Blake also added two goals to extend the Giants' lead in the second half.

The Whippets showed notable improvement in structure and effort, with Madee Townsend, Robbie Turmine, and Lachie Young each contributing a goal.

Final Score: Grampians Giants 7.9 (51) def. Wimmera Whippets 3.3 (21).

In match two, South Warrnambool Roosters defeated the Wimmera Whippets.

They were particularly efficient in the first half, leading by 24 points at the break before extending the margin late.

The Whippets battled on bravely, Madee Townsend and Lachie Young again hit the scoreboard, reinforcing their consistency across the round.

Final Score: South Warrnambool 8.9 (57) def. Wimmera Whippets 2.0 (12).

In the final match of the day, South Warrnambool Roosters defeated Grampians Giants.

It was a competitive start, but the Roosters’ structure and defensive work held firm, recording their fourth consecutive win this season.

The Giants managed one goal courtesy of Charlie Blake, but the Roosters proved too strong in both contested ball and forward efficiency. Final Score: South Warrnambool 4.5 (29) def. Grampians Giants 1.1 (7).

All up, it was a terrific day of football with great effort, team spirit, and sportsmanship on show.

These matches aren’t just about the scoreboard — they’re about community, participation, inclusion, and opportunity.

The Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly extended sincere thanks to Northern Grampians Shire Council, CSK Swifts FNC for their support and to all those who made the day possible — including families, carers, umpires, and volunteers.

The next round will be hosted in Horsham on Sunday, 15 June, where teams will again meet to continue the season.
