Gunn to lead golf bowls season 2025-26
Brian Gunn has been nominated and accepted to the position as Golf Bowls president for the next two seasons after their annual general meeting on May 25, with the majority of members attending.
Golf president David Stewart chaired the meet when office bearers were elected for the upcoming 2025/2026 season. Vice President Wayne Gove also accepted his nomination.
After successful Pennant Flags in both Divisions, past President Dawn Walton read out her last report, congratulating the club on their performance, and thanking all members for the support they gave her during the two years of office.
Dawn excelled in her role as President, even going out of her way to make sure all was up to standard, often outside the square, and should be proud of herself for the input and effort she accomplished in her time. Well done Dawn, with pressure on our next Pres.
All other positions were filled, with the club hoping to keep up the competitive attitude they are renowned for in the upcoming season.
Winter Bowls at Golf on Tuesday had a small field of eight teams in the cool conditions with only two three game winner for top honors.
Gary McLean and Graeme Walder from Warracknabeal Bowls Club were the successful team, winning game one, seven shots to four, game two 15 shots to nil, then game three 16 shots to one, in a top performance, and 82 points on the day. Norm McLean and Brian Taylor, also from Warracknabeal claimed runners up on 76 points, three wins, nine to three, 10 to six, and eight to five in the last. Good to see Norm having a competitive game of bowls.
Third position with two wins and a loss were Sal McKenzie and partner Mick Marchment, 55 points, 15 to two, 10 shots to four, then a slump in form, down seven shots to 12 against fourth placed Jing Robertson and Graeme Shalders. 51.5 points.
Shirley and Roy Liersch had a win against Simon Cousins and Mick Hall, whilst Brian Gunn and Bruce Wilson also claimed their first win in game three. Amanda Sluggett and Peter Harkness travelled from Rainbow to enjoy the afternoon of bowls and are regular players of the competition each week, which can only be a bonus for experience each time they play.
Mick Hall and Simon Cousins may like to forget their form on the day with three losses, six shots to eight, four shots to six and the final game seven shots to 18. A lovely afternoon tea was had by all, with Mick Hall coming away with the Raffle Voucher, to end his day.
Good bowling and good luck.
