Horsham City takes lead

Round 10 of the Wimmera lawn bowls division one pennant competition saw numerous hard-fought games on Saturday, December 6, as Horsham City passed Horsham Golf at the top of the ladder.

Round 10 of the Wimmera lawn bowls division one pennant competition saw numerous hard-fought games on Saturday, December 6, as Horsham City passed Horsham Golf at the top of the ladder. 

Playing at Sunnyside, Horsham City won two out of their three rinks as they defeated Sunnyside 74-62. 

Sunnyside took out rink one 22-20, as the home side’s team of Lane Hyde, Norma Hair and Stuart Cowan, skippered by John Ackland, defeated Horsham City’s team of Douglas Mitchell, Ron Hallam and Kevin Smith, skippered by John Lehmann. 

Horsham City just edged out Sunnyside 24-23 to claim rink two, as Colin Morrell, John Burchell, Bruce Campbell and skipper Anthony King defeated Sunnyside’s team of Rod Skurrie, Barry McIntyre and Rex Bergen, skippered by Dale McRae. 

Horsham City claimed a 30-17 rink three win to give them the overall victory, as their team of William Hogan, Duncan Bottoms and Graham McDonald, skippered by Ron Dolby, defeated Sunnyside’s Paul Southcott, Roger MacInnes and Chris Trotter, skippered by Gavin Watson. 

At Kaniva, Dimboola claimed a resounding 87-52 victory over the home side. 

Dimboola’s rink, one team of Judith Albrecht, Robert Pyers and Joshua Cook, skippered by Daniel Danisch, defeated Kaniva’s team of Matthew Hicks, Paul Pearson and Malcolm Coutts, skippered by Jeffrey Meyey, 28-21. 

Rink two was claimed by Dimboola 31-14, as Darryl Argall, Shannon Williams, Darryl Both and skipper Peter O’Loughlin defeated Kaniva’s Darren Maddern, Tyler Cooper and Russell Crouch, skippered by Bruce Dodson. 

Dimboola’s rink three team ensured it was a clean sweep with a 28-17 win, as the team of Greg Cook, Wayne Albrecht and Don Connors, skippered by Alan Krahe, defeated Kaniva’s Steve Duthie, Timothy Meyer and Adrian Coad, skippered by Christopher La Rocca. 

Despite losing two out of the three rinks, Horsham Golf took an 80-69 victory in their away fixture against Nhill. 

Horsham Golf’s rink one team of Robert Grieger, Heath Miller and Denis Ballinger, skippered by Gavin Walter, defeated Nhill’s Nicholas Robins, Terry Robins and Roger Brown, skippered by Darren Gebert, 34-16. 

Nhill edged out Horsham Golf 25-23 in rink two, as the home side’s team of Matthew Morrison, Brad Blackwood and Ryder Byrnes, skippered by Kevin Jones, defeated Horsham Golf’s Hayden Tucker, Ken McClelland and Danny Schmidt, skippered by Bradley Robinson. 

Nhill’s rink three team of Ray Olney, Barry Cramer, and Ivan Reichelt, skippered by Allan King, defeated Horsham Golf’s team of Ross Barnett, Stephen Harris, Geoffrey Bald, and Ashley Batchelor, 28-23. 

At Coughlin Park, Goroke Edenhope won a tight 66-62 encounter over Coughlin Park. 

Goroke Edenhope claimed the rink one 26-15, as their team of Richard Smith, Barry Crick, Trevor Mulraney and skipper Geoff Lowe defeated Coughlin Park’s Terry Sartori, Allan Leyonhjelm, Robin Shaw and skipper Charles Officer.

Coughlin Park won rink two 24-22, as Timothy Nihill, Allan Thompson, Rowan Hawkins and skipper Michael Ellis, defeated Goroke Edenhope’s team of Alan O’Bryan, Wayne Caldow and Bruce Ackland, skippered by Philip Robinson. 

Coughlin Park also claimed rink three 23-18, as the team of Damian Bryan, Peter Beasley and Zac Stephan, skippered by Craig Decker, defeated Goroke Edenhope’s Craig Smith, Travis Crawford and Terry Exell, skippered by Hugh Caldow. 

In division two, Horsham Golf narrowly kept its undefeated season alive with a 7067 win over Coughlin Park, Nhill overcame Horsham City 81-78, Dimboola defeated Natimuk 72-58, and Sunnyside defeated Goroke Edenhope 83-54. 

In division three, Nhill three kept its stronghold as ladder leaders with a 69-51 victory over Horsham City, Horsham Golf defeated Coughlin Park three 58-50, Coughlin Park four defeated Nhill four 76-59, while Sunyside overcame Kaniva 55-48.
