Inaugural women’s season opening
Wimmera Football Netball League’s first-ever women’s football season kicks off this Sunday when Minyip Murtoa host Laharum at Murtoa Recreation Reserve.

Essendon AFLW player Alex Morcom will help celebrate the opening by tossing the coin for the women's seniors game.
The day kicks off with the under 14.5 girls' junior competition commencing at 11.30am, where a combined Warrack Eagles and Minyip Murtoa Burras team face Laharum.
A presentation to mark the inaugural women’s football season will be held at 1pm before Minyup Murtoa and Laharum kick off at 1.15pm.
Jennie French, the league’s operations manager, is excited about the occasion.
“It is a pretty historic day for our region, for female sport,” French said.
As well as Morcom, AFL Victoria representatives and team sponsors will attend the competition's opening.
The game is free to the general public.
“We're hoping that people will go and see it and want to be involved and have a go,” French said.
“All the clubs will be accepting players throughout the season.”
The 2025 season is a three-team competition consisting of nine rounds and a grand final to conclude the season.
Going forward, the girls' under 14.5 competition games will start at 10am, with the women’s senior games at midday.
