Dimboola will be the place to be this week with the return of the Wimmera Steampunk Festival.

The festival is expected to bring 5000 people from around Victoria to the town and interstate and even overseas visitors.

Steampunk's 2023 festival attracted around 4000 people from across Australia and even from around the world, with this year's event expected to bring around 5000 people to town.

Festival director Chan Uoy said the weekend is coming together.

"You can see the excitement building in Dimboola," he said.

This year's theme of 'The Carnival of Peculiaralities', inspiration taken from Tim Burton's 'Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children', aims to bring people together to celebrate the quirkiness that everyone holds.

"It's all about diversity, and people need to see it," he said.

Visitors and locals won't be short of things to do from today (April 9), when many events, activities and workshops are set to kick off throughout the week.

The musical thriller of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is set ready to hit the stage at Dimboola Memorial Secondary College.

The performance opens on Wednesday, April 9, at 7pm, before continuing on Thursday, April 10, at 7pm, Friday, April 11, at 7pm and Sunday, April 13, at 1pm.

The Dimboola and District Historical Society will have a book sale and steam tractor on display throughout the week at the Court House Museum.

The Print Museum located on Lochiel Street will also be open during select times.

Saturday, April 12, will have a riverside market from 10am to 3pm, barefoot bowling from 1pm to 4pm, and the Country Women's Association (CWA) will have Devonshire tea on offer from 10am to 1pm.

Some activities and events are paid entry.

The street party will have a wide range of entertainment, food and beverages available for all to enjoy, with gates opening at 4.30pm.

The opening parade featuring Horsham Rural City Band, multicultural dancers and an honour to the firefighters starts at 6.30pm.

See the program lift out in this week's edition of the Dimboola Banner for more information.
