Morning tea for a cause
More than 35 people gathered at Rainbow’s Biggest Morning Tea last Thursday, raising $458 for the Cancer Council in a heartwarming display of community spirit and support.

The event was a joint effort by the Southern Mallee Co-Operative Parish Church and the Rainbow Neighbourhood House and Learning Group, who partnered to provide a welcoming space filled with food, conversation and connection.
Guests enjoyed a generous spread of different treats and had the opportunity to catch up with friends, make new connections and test their knowledge with tea-themed quizzes.
Newly appointed Rainbow Neighbourhood Manager Melissa Powell spoke about her role and the services and programs available to the community at the house, adding a fresh face to the local support network.
The highlight of the morning was the guest speaker, Caroline Cocks, who shared her experience with cancer, including the emotions, services, and support available.
Her moving talk touched on the emotional journey, the strength found in supportive relationships and the vital role of medical and community services.
Her mother, Floss Ampt, also shared reflections on her own cancer journey, speaking about the importance of humour, resilience, and being open to support and sharing the journey as all essential aspects.
The church and the neighbourhood house appreciated both speakers and presented them with gifts.
All attendees left the event with full hearts, new insights and a renewed sense of connection, while contributing to a meaningful cause.
