Musos get down and dirty in Rupanyup

Around 200 people attended two dozen acts performing at six different venues on Sunday, April 6, from 11am to 8pm during Rupanyup’s 13th annual Dirt Music Festival.

Taking inspiration from best-selling author Tim Winton’s quote “anything you can play on a verandah –you know, dirt music”, between 11am and 4.30pm, musicians played at Val’s, The Paper Trail, Rupanyup Memorial Hall, Tesso’s and St Phillip’s Church.

Then, in a second wave of gigs, the action moved to the bowls club from 4.30pm, and six further performances rounded out the day.

Dirt Music committee member Ash Teasdale said the only challenge for attendees was the breeze.

“The wind was a slight obstacle during an otherwise perfect day to sit back, relax and enjoy an afternoon of Music along the streets of Rupanyup,” he said.

“Our six venues saw a variety of performances, from soloists with guitars and keyboards, three-piece bands impressing with their vocal harmonies, to a choir of singers and a group of 37 ukuleles.

“Attendees could find a comfy place to spend the day, or wander around the dirt walks between venues to check out the performers.”

The community spirit and musical variety made the festival a memorable experience.

“Overall a fantastic day, and we can’t wait to see everyone again next year.” Mr Teasdale said.
