Operation Compass sees zero fatalities
Victoria Police’s Operation Compass, which ran from April 7 to 27, concluded with strong enforcement results and no road fatalities recorded during the 21-day campaign in the region.

During the Stawell Gift competition period, police conducted 2,200 preliminary breath tests (PBTs) in Stawell and Ararat.
Of those, 12 drivers recorded blood alcohol levels over the legal limit, and one driver tested positive for drug use.
Horsham recorded 136 offences, and the Northern Grampians recorded 101.
Most were speed-related, with two drivers caught under the influence in Horsham.
Nine motorists also lost their licences due to speeding in the West of Horsham.
Police reported increased traffic volumes, particularly on Thursday, April 17 and Sunday, April 27, causing congestion along the main highway.
Horsham Highway Patrol Sergeant Dale McIvor said the operation was a success.
“It all went well with increased police presence on the roads, and people were quite vigilant and driving with care,” he said.
“Fatality-free weekends were a win for all road users.”
Despite the campaign’s success, police confirmed a fatal crash occurred the day after the operation ended, on Tuesday, April 29, in Little Desert.
