The final score was Pimpinio 13.10 (88) to Taylors Lake 12.8 (80).

Playing at home, Taylors Lake capitalised on their early wind advantage to jump out of the gate, scoring the first three goals of the game in the first seven minutes.

A flurry of goals from both sides late in the opening quarter saw the Lakers lead 42-28 on the back of four goals from Alex Baker.

An improved second quarter from Pimpinio saw them take a marginal lead (54-51) into half-time.

A hard-fought third quarter saw Pimpinio enter the final quarter up 68-66, where the Tigers were able to kick three straight goals to help consolidate their lead.

Two late goals to Riley Hall and Alex Baker gave the Lakers a sniff with minutes to go but Pimpinio held on.

For the victors, Adam Westley and Matthew Rosier were the best on field, while Alex Baker and Bray Cullinan impressed for Taylors Lake.

Alex Baker led all scorers with six goals, while Nick Groves led Pimpinio with four.

Pimpinio coach Guy Smith said he was happy to get the points in a mixed performance.

“Super happy with getting the four points and obviously getting the win in the conditions that it was,” Smith said.

“I was a little bit disappointed in the way we played.

“We didn't win the football in the middle where we needed to, and they got some easy transition to go forward where our defenders were sort of caught out of position gave away a couple of free kicks.”

After securing the half-time lead, Smith acknowledged that the Tigers made some adjustments to account for the conditions, helping them maintain their lead.

“After half-time, we structured our backline so that we really flooded it such that they couldn’t get any easy run in,” Smith said.

“From there, we finished off the game well.”

The win elevates Pimpinio to third on the ladder, overtaking Laharum after their loss to Harrow Balmoral.
