Shire pools wrap up summer season
Hindmarsh Shire’s public swimming pools will close for the season on Monday, March 10, after a highly successful summer.
Residents and visitors flocked to the four council-operated pools in Dimboola, Jeparit, Nhill, and Rainbow, bringing total attendance to 11,668.
Swimmers visited Dimboola 5,229 times, Nhill 4,087 times, Rainbow 1,681 times, and Jeparit 671 times.
The free entry initiative attracted 2,616 individual registrations, making the pools more accessible to the community.
Visitors travelled from Hindmarsh Shire, neighbouring regions and interstate, including Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia and the Northern Territory.
Beyond casual swimming, community members participated in a range of events.
The Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council hosted pool parties, drawing 170 people to Dimboola, 60 to Nhill, 34 to Jeparit, and 23 to Rainbow.
Local schools used the pools for swimming lessons, recreational activities and carnivals.
Dimboola and Nhill pools hosted Vic Swim programs, while Rainbow supported private swimming lessons.
In mid-2024, Hindmarsh Shire Council took over the management of all four public swimming pools and hired 26 lifeguards and one supervisor.
This decision created job opportunities for young people who gained workforce experience, received lifesaving and first aid training, and earned an income before returning to school, beginning tertiary education, or finding other employment.
Community members praised the pools operations and free entry, expressing their appreciation for these facilities.
Hindmarsh Shire Council thanked everyone who visited and contributed to another fantastic summer season.
