Thriller highlights round two
Round two of Warracknabeal Senior Table Tennis produced a thriller match to begin the night when Boolite claimed a narrow victory over Warracknabeal.
This was a very close tussle with Boolite winners over Warracknabeal by just one set and less points than Warracknabeal.
Final score was 6 sets each, 24 games to 23, 416 pts to 426
Warracknabeal’s Trevor Zhemer took the first singles over Boolite’s Russell Schultz 11-8,11-5, 9-11, 11-3 before Boolite took over to win the next three singles. Rob Lehmann def Christiana Henke 6-11,7-11,11-7, 11-7, 11-4. Graeme Koschitzke (sub) def David Ward 11-8,11-9,11-9 and Will Smith won over Fred Ackland 11-7, 11-4, 11-3.
Russell and Rob won the first doubles for Boolite 9-11, 7-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-6. W’beal retaliated to take the next doubles, David W and Fred over sub Keedie Wardle and Will Smith 12-10,11-13, 15-13, 11-9.
W’beal won the next three singles when Trevor def Rob 6-11,11-3, 11-4, 8-11, 11-9, Christiana def Russell 11-8, 11-7, 8-11, 8-11, 12-10, and David W def Will 11-3, 11-2, 11-6. Boolite took the remaining singles when sub Simon Leslie beat Fred 11-7, 11-3, 11-4.
Sets were now even at five each team. W’Beal won the next doubles when Trevor and David W won against Russell and sub Graeme 11-7, 11-1, 11-4. Boolite took the last doubles with Rob and Will beating Christiana and Fred 6-11, 12-10, 13-11, 11-3 giving Boolite a very slim victory.
Match two saw Galaquil take an easy victory over Bangerang 9 sets to 3, 31games to 15, 452 points to 392
Bangerang’s David Baxter opened the account for his team with a win over Galaquil’s Charlie Martin 11-5, 11-9, 6-11, 13-11, Galaquil took the next two singles when Lindsay Martin defeated Bangerang sub Shane Wardle 11-9, 11-9, 9-11, 11-9 and Graeme Koschitzke won over Bangerang’s Simon Leslie 11-4, 16-14, 11-4.
Bangerang’s Amy Holland then won over Galaquil’s Jagger Livingston 11-13, 9-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-6. Galaquil streaked ahead in the doubles when Charlie and Lindsay def David B qnd Simon 5-11, 7-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-6, and Graeme and Jagger def Simon and Amy 11-8, 11-9, 11-6.
Galaquil continued on relentlessly to take the next three singles when Charlie def Shane 11-8, 5-11, 6-11, 11-5, 13-11, Lindsay over David B 11-3, 11-5, 13-11, and Graeme against Amy 11-2, 11-3, 11-3.
Bangerang took the last singles when Simon def Jagger 11-2, 10-12, 11-7, 11-2.
Galaquil sealed the match taking the last two doubles when Charlie and Graeme def David B and Simon 13-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-5, and Lindsay and Jagger def sub Shane and Amy 11-4, 16-14, 11-9.
Match three saw Brim victorious over Wallup 8 sets to 4, 27 games to 14, 407 points to 289.
All the singles sets were won alternately. Wallup’s Ash Purdue def Brim’s Owen Osborne 11-9, 13-11, 11-7 before Brim’s Zeik Clark won over Wallup’s Brad Martin 11-9, 9-11, 11-3, 6-11, 11-3.
Wallup’s Wendy Lehmann def Brim’s Keedie Wardle 7-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-7, Brim’s Richard Tickner won over Wallup’s Eli Robinson 11-4, 11-9, 11-3, Owen def Brad 11-3, 11-1, 11-3, Ash def Zeik 11-5, 12-10, 11-6, Keedie def Eli 11-0, 11-2, 11-2 and Wendy won over Richard 8-11, 15-13, 5-11, 11-6, 11-3.
Brim won all four doubles. Owen and Zeik against Ash and Brad 11-9, 11-6, 11-6, Keedie and Richard over Wendy and Eli 11-3, 11-3, 11-9. Owen and Keedie def Ash and Wendy 11-6, 11-5, 11-9 and Zeik and Richard def Brad and Eli 11-2, 11-5, 11-7 to give them the match by four sets.
