Warrack and Wallup home in thrillers

Keen competition in Warracknabeal Senior Table Tennis at Brim on Monday night where Wallup, Boolite and Warracknabeal emerge victors.

Match one saw Wallup victorious over Bangerang seven sets to five, 25 games to 19, 410 points to 392.

Wallup showed their dominance from the start taking the first three singles sets. Substitute Lindsay Martin def Bangerang sub Charlie Martin 9-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-6, Brad Martin def John Woods 11-9, 11-6, 12-10, and Wendy Lehmann def Simon Leslie 5-11, 14-12, 11-8, 11-8.

Amy Holland then put Bangerang on the board with a win over Wallup’s Eli Robinson 11-7, 11-9, 11-4. Wallup won the first doubles when Lindsay and Brad defeated Charlie and John 13-11, 12-10, 11-13, 11-2.

Bangerang fought back to take the next doubles with Simon and Amy winning over Wendy and Eli 11-4, 11-6, 11-9.

Reverse singles were won alternately. Bangerang’s Charlie def his dad Brad in a close set 12-10, 8-11, 7-11, 11-6, 11-6. Wallup’s Lindsay def John 11-9, 12-10, 11-2, Bangerang’s Simon def Eli 11-5, 11-3, 11-3 and Wallup’s Wendy def Amy 11-7, 11-4, 11-4.

Wallup took the next doubles with Lindsay and Wendy defeating Charlie and Simon 11-6, 11-6, 11-13, 11-4 and Bangerang sealed the match winning the last doubles with John and Amy defeating Brad and Eli 9-11, 11-5, 4-11, 11-8, 11-6.

Match two saw Boolite too good for Kellalac winning eight sets to four, 26 games to 19, 402 points to 384.

Boolite raced ahead winning the first three singles with Russell Schultz defeating Jason Robinson 11-4, 11-7, 6-11, 11-9, Rob Lehmann def Shane Wardle 2-11, 11-5, 9-11, 11-6, 11-8, and sub Justin Watson def Craig Byron 11-3, 11-2, 11-7.

Kellalac sub Richard Tickner then won over Boolite’s Will Smith 11-2, 11-6, 11-6. Boolite continued on their winning way to take the following two doubles when Russell and Rob defeated Jason and Shane 11-5, 11-9, 11-8, and Justin and Will def Craig and sub Keedie Wardle in a very close set 11-7, 10-12, 11-9, 8-11, 14-12.

The first two reverse singles saw Russell def Shane 11-9, 11-13, 11-7, 11-3 and Rob def Jason 11-8, 11-6, 11-3. Kellalac won the next two singles, sub Richard def Justin 11-6, 11-7, 11-7 and Craig won over Will 11-7, 11-2, 5-11, 11-9 followed by the next doubles where Jason and Craig def Russell and Justin 11-5, 6-11, 11-4, 11-1.

Boolite took the last doubles when Rob and Will def Shane and Keedie 11-8, 11-7, 5-11, 11-9 giving Boolite the match by four sets.

Match three saw Warracknabeal winners over Brim seven sets to five, 23 games to 21, 407 points to 410.

This was a closely contested match with both teams neck and neck until the last two doubles. Warracknabeal won the first two singles when Trevor Hemer def Brim’s Owen Osborne 11-8, 16-14, 12-10 followed by Christiana Henke defeating Brim’s Zeik Clark 12-10, 11-4, 11-3.

Brim won the next two singles when Keedie Wardle def W’beal sub Graeme Koschitzke 6-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-9 and Richard Tickner def Fred Ackland 11-5, 11-6, 11-4. W’beal won the first doubles with Trevor and Christiana defeating Owen and Zeik 9-11, 13-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-8.

Brim fought back taking the next doubles when Keedie and Richard def Graeme and Fred 11-7, 11-7, 11-6. W’beal won the first reverse singles when Trevor def Zeik 11-6, 5-11, 11-4, 11-8.

Brim’s Owen then won over Christiana 11-7, 10-12, 11-7, 11-9. W’beal won the next when Graeme def Richard 11-6, 11-7, 11-6, Brim took the last singles when Keedie def Fred 11-2, 11-5, 11-7.

Scores were now even at five sets each but W’beal claimed victory when they took the last two closely contested doubles. Trevor and Graeme in a five game thriller over Owen and Keedie 9-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9, 14-12 and Christiana and Fred with a win over Zeik and Richard 11-9, 11-9, 8-11, 11-2 giving Warracknabeal the match by just two sets, two games, three less points.
