The Lions scored a nail-biting one-point victory against Woorndoo-Mortlake in round six of the Mininera and District Football League on Saturday.
It was the club's first senior football win since August 2010.
The former Horsham District Football League club went into recess following the 2010 season.
The Great Western community rallied to save the club last year and it reformed and joined the Mininera and District league this season. President Rodney Matheson said Saturday's win was momentous for the Great Western faithful.
"This wasn't just for our players, it was for the whole community," he said.
"A lot of people have put in a lot of hard work to get the club back."
The club started from scratch, working hard to attract former and new players.
It wasn't a fairytale return though, with the Lions losing their first five games by an average of 175 points.
A fortnight ago, the side failed to score in a 300-point loss to Tatyoon.
Mr Matheson said he always believed in the club's revival.
"To get our first win, it's a big relief," he said.
"I'm just so happy for the guys, they have coped a hiding in the past five weeks."
Great Western trailed Woorndoo-Mortlake at every change and started the final quarter 20 points behind.
Mr Matheson said his side fought hard in the final term.
The Lions hit the front, only for Woorndoo-Mortlake regain the lead with three minutes left on the clock.
"They got back in front then we managed to kick a goal to get the lead back," Mr Matheson said. "Woorndoo-Mortlake had its chances but our guys teamed up well, put pressure on and were able to capitalise on turnovers.
"The old Great Western would have rolled over and died, but these guys dug deep and pulled it off."
Shannon Notting kicked four goals in the win, with Lachie Green best on ground.
Mr Matheson said the victory was a fitting way to celebrate Tim Shalders' 150th club game.
"It makes the win a bit more special," Mr Matheson said.
"But as our coach Darren Weavell said after the game, it's just one win, we can't get ahead of ourselves."
