Kuhne, 15, split his spleen into three pieces after colliding with another player during the first quarter of an under-17s game against Nhill on June 9.
His father Lyndon Kuhne said Jayden went into surgery at Wimmera Base Hospital at 3am on Monday.
Mr Kuhne said doctors had originally hoped the organ would repair itself.
"Ultimately it would have been good to save the spleen so he was not on regular medication but once it was removed we saw it was beyond repair," he said.
"It was bleeding out quite aggressively and the choice was taken out of our hands."
Mr Kuhne said while it was a 'very scary' time for his family, it was hoped his son would make a full recovery.
The midfielder had tried out for Vic Country's under-15 team earlier this year, just missing out on selection.
He dreams of playing AFL football.
"He is in a lot of pain but he is a determined young fella and has put goals in place that he wants to achieve by the end of the year," Mr Kuhne said.
"He is just soldiering on. Hopefully he'll make a full recovery back to sport, that will be the best result.
"That is what he is passionate about. With a bit of luck it won't hinder him too much."
