Milgate, who turns 86 next month, lost his precious badge while watching football at Minyip Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
But thanks to good samaritans, and a metal detector, Milgate was reunited with his badge yesterday.
Milgate was born and bred in Minyip and was part of their first premiership in 1946 against Warracknabeal.
It was the first of three Wimmera Football League flags Milgate won at the Blues.
Despite his legend status, Milgate, who played most of his football at centre-wing, insisted he was just 'one of the boys'.
Milgate said while Minyip-Murtoa's season was over in the seniors, he had high hopes for his beloved side in the reserves and under-17s.
"We got two teams through on the weekend, which was good," he said.
His grandsons Jeremy and Liam Newell and Darcy and Brylie Cameron have all lined up for the Burras this season.
When asked where he would keep the medal from now on, Milgate said he would keep it close by.
"I'll keep it on my jacket pocket where it should have been," he joked.
