A department spokesman said the new tower was part of a State Government project to upgrade communications across the state.
“As a level three incident control centre, Horsham is a prime point for such upgrades to support the fire control operation and in turn, to support the community,” he said.
“The Department of Environment and Primary Industries required enhanced radio facilities in Horsham.
“To maximise the use of the tower, Telstra will be providing services to the community from the same facility.”
Natimuk’s Iain Sedgman took the first two photos of the tower being assembled this month.
Mr Sedgman said he saw the middle part of the tower being raised in about five minutes and workers aligning the first corner with the base of the structure.
The photograph of the tower fully assembled was taken by Mail-Times photographer Samantha Camarri.
