Sam O’Connor and Madeleine Arnel are the captains, with Ella Janetzki and Jonah Connelly taking up the vice-captain roles.
Grade six teacher Gemma Perkins said the process to choose the students began last year.
“We went through a leadership process where students were exposed to and fleshed out what it meant to be a good leader,” she said.
“We focused on famous leaders, for example people like Martin Luther King and also Australian and local leaders, we talked about Hugh Delahunty and people like Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott.”
The students then made speeches to their peers who then voted for the person they thought was right for the job – not necessarily their friends.
Ms Perkins said the qualities displayed by this year’s captains included empathy, honesty and a willingness to give everything a go.
“They’re really approachable students,” she said.
“They are the best people for the job.
“Throughout this year and last year they’ve shown the leadership qualities to talk through and work through any situation.”
