Assistant principal Carlos Lopez said the college was among the top 20 schools in the Premier’s Active April initiative in 2013.
He said the students hoped to blitz the challenge again this year.
Premier’s Active April – now in its sixth year – is a free program that promotes a healthy and active lifestyle.
Dr Napthine has encouraged Victorians to register online and commit to 30 minutes of exercise every day during April.
He said there were plenty of ways to get active, such as walking to school or work, taking children to the park, playing backyard cricket or having a hit of tennis.
Mr Lopez said Horsham College students were excited about the program.
“The students are keen and have maintained their enthusiastic approach from last year,” he said.
“It’s all about making sure they are active – it’s a great challenge for both social and health reasons.”
Mr Lopez said students would be encouraged to be active both at school and at home.
“Sport is very big in our school and in our community,” he said.
Premier’s Active April participants can win a range of sport and active recreation-related prizes.
Each participant will receive 10 free YMCA passes to help them become more active.
Ararat YMCA and Stawell Health and Fitness Centre manager Sam Winter encouraged Wimmera residents to take part in the challenge.
“One of the biggest barriers to a healthy lifestyle is the ability to be active,” she said.
“Premier’s Active April is a great way to not only get fit and healthy, but spend time with your family and just have fun.”
She said people could visit www.activeapril.vic.gov.au for more information or to register.
