WARRACK Eagles have made it four on the trot after their 23-point win over Horsham Saints at Coughlin Park on Saturday.
The Saints got off to a flyer, kicking four goals to zero in the first term to open up a 21-point advantage – but the visitors responded to level the scores at the major break.
An eight-goal third term from the Eagles proved the difference, as they went into the three-quarter-time huddle leading by 21 points before winning 14.10 (94) to 10.11 (71).
Saints coach Shayne Breuer said his side was not able to match it with the Eagles for long enough.
“We started off alright, but probably our work-rate fell away a bit,” he said.
“You can’t afford to switch off against any side – we’ve got a lot of work to do.”
The Eagles had five multiple goalkickers, with Jae McGrath, three goals, Jake Peters, three, Clayton Hinkley, two, and Jason Hinkley, two, all named among the best.
Defender Jacob Cheney was named the Eagles’ best.
Midfielders Sam Clyne and Pat Knott and ruckman Michael Rowe were the Saints’ best players.
Breuer said his side had plenty to improve on.
“We’re around teams at the moment, but we haven’t got that little bit extra,” he said.
“Probably our forward line didn’t function very well on Saturday, but maybe that was their backline working well.”
The league’s leading goal-kicker Gavin Kelm added three goals to his season’s tally of 25 to stay clear of the pack, with Clyne, two, the Saints’ only other multiple goal-kicker.
