The Falcons fought off bottom side Creswick Orange to claim a 4-3 win at Dudley Cornell Park, Horsham, on Sunday afternoon.
But despite claiming the points, Falcons coach Mick Clark was not fully satisfied.
“We’ll take the win, but there are a few things we need to work on,” he said.
“We gave away a stupid penalty and a goal that Ebby Njoku could’ve cleared, but he was called to leave it for the keeper.
“We’re meeting the top two sides over the next two weeks and we’ll probably have to perform a bit better.”
Ben Rowan was the star for the Falcons, scoring all four goals.
“He was excellent – he kicked one every time we needed it,” Clark said.
The Falcons led 2-1 at half-time, before a second-half brace from Rowan broke 2-2 and 3-3 deadlocks.
Clark said the Falcons could improve and needed to.
“Our response under pressure was good, but we didn’t do the things we talk about doing consistently,” he said.
“There’s still a lot of improvement in these guys – we’ve got to get to training and work on what we need to do.
“The future’s in our hands after a bit of a poor start to the year and we’ve just got to keep going.
Clark said among the host’s other stand-out performers were keeper Nick Bamford and defenders Jason Wilksch and Ebby Njoku.
But the news was not as promising for the Falcons’ skipper and Rowan’s attacking partner Kane Clark, who was injured in his first game back from an ankle issue.
Marcus Luciani scored his third goal for the season, but the Falcons’ under-15 side was unable to snare a win, losing 6-1 to Sebastopol at home on Sunday.
