SWIFTS turned in one of its best performances of the season to demolish Natimuk United at Natimuk Showground on Saturday.
The Baggies won each quarter convincingly on their way to a 22.20 (152) to 5.4 (34) win.
Coach Ben Martin provided a big target up forward, kicking seven goals to take the lead on the league goal-kicking table.
Damien Joiner and Ricky Whitehead excelled in the middle of the ground and Luke Mitchell proved his worth with a bullocking performance around the contests.
It was a dirty day for the Rams, who had few winners.
Coach Tim Friend said Jonathon Hornsby, Ash Pekin and Greg Hamilton could hold their heads high, but the rest of the team did not play to an acceptable standard.
“I’d be hard-pressed to find any positives for us in that game,” he said.
“We were beaten at the stoppages and didn’t work hard enough.
“It’s been a disappointing past two weeks for us, and we’ve got no one to blame but ourselves.”
In more bad news for the Rams, Jeremy Schmidt could be done for the season after partially dislocating his shoulder in a tackle.
Baggies coach Paul Hanns said his players were starting to get on the same page.
“It was close to the four-quarter effort that we’ve talked about, and we were pleased with the way we concentrated on our roles and structures,” he said.
“The only thing that let us down was that we didn’t kick straight in the second quarter.”
Hanns said the team needed to bring its aggressive mindset to the rest of its games this season.
