Cookery students will commandeer the Wimmera Trade Training Centre kitchen on Wednesdays from noon until 2pm.
The series started on Wednesday with a buffet lunch.
Federation University hospitality teacher Jill Faulkner said people could expect an a la carte menu this week.
“Meals are very reasonably priced, to cover costs,” she said.
“It is primarily a training restaurant.”
Mrs Faulkner said gaining experience in a commercial kitchen was integral to the students’ studies.
“The vast majority of our students go on to do some form of hospitality,” she said.
The menu will also reflect skills the students are learning in class.
Mrs Faulkner said people should book ahead, especially if they had any special needs or dietary requirements.
It will be the second year Wimmera cookery students have catered for Wednesday lunch service at Wimmera Trade Training Centre.
Mrs Faulkner said last year’s series was well supported.
“The trade training centre is very central, and people like it for their lunches, with the university campus and the school campus nearby,” she said.
Mrs Faulkner said people also appreciated the series’ importance for the students.
“The restaurant is a true reflection of a normal workplace, so they really are having a hands-on experience,” she said.
The series will run until October 15, when the students finish their second semester of studies.
“The only breaks in trade will be during the school holidays,” Mrs Faulkner said.
She said people could call the Wimmera Trade Training Centre on 5381 7777 to make a reservation.
