HORSHAM will be Wimmera Football League’s minor premier after a 105-72 win over Warrack Eagles at Brim.
The Demons got away early and stayed in front during the match.
At three-quarter-time the Demons led by 57 points but the Eagles came back in the final term, kicking 6.1 to Horsham’s 2.1.
But it was not enough to get in front.
Horsham coach Jordyn Burke said it was a pleasing result and a turn-around from the side’s loss to the Eagles in round eight.
“It was a physical sort of a game but to get out and win by six goals was great,” he said.
“They came back in the last quarter, but it was good that we were able to hold them off.”
Burke said the Demons focused on getting a good start.
“They are a quality side and we wanted to get on top early,” he said.
“We were lucky we kicked accurately in the first quarter.”
Aaron Barnett, four goals, and Nick Pekin and Sean Christopher, three each, were the Demons’ top goal-kickers.
Burke said Pekin was among the side’s best performers.
“He was great around the middle and up forward all day,” he said.
“Darcy Taylor was also excellent down back and Jordy Schmidt played one of his best games for the season.
“Overall it was a solid contribution from everyone.”
Joel Geue and Nathan Kelly were also named in the best.
Burke said the Demons needed to make sure they continued to win the contested footy going into the last round of the home and away season.
Warrack Eagles coach Tim Inkster was the side’s leading goal-kicker with five majors.
He was also named in the side’s best, along with Jake Peters and Jacob Cheney.
